They grow up so fast!

I heard this ALL the time from moms before Fin was born. "Cherish every moment with them because they grow up so fast!" I used to think, yeah yeah, you probably just weren't LOOKING! Well that was until Fin came along and we'd wake up in the morning and our first reaction was, "WHOA! He grew over night!!" The other night he was laying across my chest nursing and I did a double-take and thought, "who is this huge kid on my chest and what did you do with my Fin??!!"

With so many clothes in his closet, I really need to make an effort to take pictures of him actually wearing them before he grows out of them. Some clothes he's only worn once, others not at all! When we're at home and when he's wearing more than just his diaper, I tend to put him in outfits that are shall we say, not ones I would've chosen myself {CORRECTION: I've bought some fugly stuff too!} since he spits up so much and we have to change him 10 times a day. But this morning I had a light bulb moment: If I keep "saving" the cutest outfits for when we go out only, he'll grow out of them!! I know you probably just said, "DUH!!" Forgive me, I'm sleep-deprived!

So I'm going to (try my best to!) feature Fin in a favourite outfit each friday (say THAT fast 5 times!) -- Fashion Friday!

This one we bought while Fin was still in my belly and we didn't know if he was going to be a boy or a girl. The best part is the little monkey that's attached by a string to the pants. I've shoved him in the pocket here.

Auntie Di got Fin this organic cotton onesie that I love! I may be making statements on his behalf but I'm pretty sure he agrees that global warming sucks! The awesome Baby Legs are from my good friend Katie.

We probably would've been able to put them on him a bit earlier but we JUST realized that he's outgrown the newborn-sized disposable diapers! A little slow there....

Very early on in my pregnancy, I researched alternatives to disposable diapers. I don't live every aspect of my life in a "green" way but I try and do what I can do. And when I saw all those cute new cloth diapers out there I thought, "I think we can do this!" These aren't the piece-of-cloth-plus-pins type that our parents were accustomed to. They have snaps or velcro and pockets to stuff the perfect liners in and they come in bold colors and patterns! Forget shopping for shoes, I'm shopping for diapers!

I'm glad Matt was on board with this because little did he know, he would be Head Diaper Changer.

Excuse me now....I have to go shop for some more diapers!

As of today, my blog has changed names!

One Month

IMG_1858, originally uploaded by rosey11.

Wow, where has this month gone?! And where has my tiny little newborn gone?! Who is this young man?!

I swear he grows and changes by the second.

This past month we have enjoyed getting to know our little boy and letting him get to know us. On one hand, it has been a huge adjustment to our lives but yet on the other hand it feels so natural and just right.

I can't wait to see what the future holds!

We love you Fin!

P.S.
I LOVE parent parking!!

Fin's birth story, as told by mama

Let me just start out saying that the entire pregnancy (overall) was AMAZING! For the most part, I enjoyed it...a lot!

Tuesday May 19th @ 6am:
The day after the long weekend. About to start my last week of work, hooray! I had moved my last day of work up by a week. Originally it was set for May 29th! Crazy. So at 6am I felt like I might have peed my pants. Went to the bathroom and *gush*. Not a huge gush, but enough to know that I didn't pee my pants! Woke Matt up and scolded him (excitedly!) for wishing for a May baby the night before! Called our doula Fiona (LOOOVE her!) and said, "so I guess I'm not going into work today?" Uh huh!

Our goal was to stay at home for as long as possible and to bring labor on naturally in a relaxed comfortable environment. From the time my water first leaked, I knew I had 24 hours before we needed to show up at the hospital. Time was tickin' baby! As long as baby was doing well, I wanted to avoid drugs, induction, c-section, anything that was medically unnecessary. It sure was relaxing at home because I didn't really have any contractions all day to speak of! Just eating and napping....like a normal day for me! Except the tiny little part about gushing!! How come nobody told me that when your water breaks, you could be gushing ALL day long?? I thought there were 2 choices: You get the BIG gush like you see in the movies, or you get the slow leak you barely notice. I was in neither category. EIGHT pairs of pants/shorts/underwear later I realized I should've just sat on the toilet all day long. I could be sitting down or laying down and then get up and have to RUN to the bathroom while Matt laughed and saw me wet my pants. It's ok, he can laugh since he does the laundry!

Tuesday May 19th evening:
Still no sign of baby yet. Fiona told us to get a good night's rest so my body is ready for what's to come. Like most nights, we popped in a movie so Matt could watch it and I could fall asleep during opening credits. Zoolander! It was about 11:30 when we decided to turn the movie off and get some shut-eye. We had the alarm set for 5am so we could be at the hospital around 6am. Sleep baby sleep, we will meet you soon....

Wednesday May 20th @ 1am:
I woke up to a sudden 'pop' sound inside of me. I thought the Swedish Berry might have punched me but later found out that was probably my cervix opening! Went to the bathroom and felt a huge pressure to poo, but not really to poo. HOLY CRAP!! I THINK THAT'S A REAL CONTRACTION!! Went back to bed and noted the time. Let's see if another one comes....

Wednesday May 20th @ 1:20ish: (disclaimer: times from here on out are highly inaccurate because I was in the twilight zone)
OMG....another contraction, I think?! This time I woke Matt up. I called Fiona because I really didn't know if this was the REAL deal (duh!). I was just getting really bad back pain every once in awhile. I don't know how close they were, I wasn't timing! I asked Fiona if we should start heading to the hospital and she said yes. Call her when we're on the road so she can meet us there. So I'm packing up my toiletries and Matt TRIES to pack up the car. It was pretty difficult for him to pack up since I kept calling him back when I would have a contraction!

Wednesday May 20th @ 2-something-ish:
I finally made it down the stairs and Matt's cell phone rings. It's Fiona and she asks why we're STILL at home!! Why? How long has it been since we spoke? What?? 40 minutes??!! OMG! Told her we're on our way!! I wasn't paying much attention during the drive to the hospital. Just tried to breathe through each contraction and to stay as relaxed as possible. I think we made it to the hospital in record time!

Wednesday May 20th @ almost 3am:
Fiona met us at the hospital and checked me in. Matt and Fiona brought me up to my room, stopping for contractions. Once in the room, the most comfy spot for me was the toilet! Funny side note: I remember saying (while in pain), "This toilet paper is soooo cheap!! Next time I'm bringing my own!" WTH??!!
The next part is all pretty much a blur. I just remember LOVING the counter pressure that Fiona was putting on my hips through the contractions.

Wednesday May 20th @ 3:47am:
FIN IS BORN!!!
I remember him coming out and immediately feeling relieved and Matt yelling, "it's a BOY!" Then my wonderful doc tells me to look at my baby. On the bed between my legs was this beautiful little boy crying. I had to touch him to make sure he was real. He belongs to us!! With all the struggles we've been through, at times we thought this would never happen. Now we can't imagine life without him. He belonged to us all along....it just took awhile to make his appearance.

Welcome to the outside world!

Proud dad

My dream team: Fiona (wonderful doula), super doc, me, Matt, and Fin!

We love you, Fin.

Our life has forever changed....

....for the better of course!

Never have we been so happy:

to see a poopy diaper

to sleep at 2 hour intervals

to get peed on

to get puked on

It's ALL worth it!
We love you Fin!

I need to blog more often....

....because soon I'll have soooo much time to blog! hahaha!
Let's see what we've been up to lately:

We've known McRae since she was still in her mommy's belly. We were checking on our 1st house while it was being built and Tamye came over and rang the back doorbell. Who's ringing our doorbell when we haven't even moved in yet?? Our neighbor!! And the rest is history! Anyway, for McRae's last birthday (which was almost a year ago!), I had drawn a "coupon" in her birthday card for an afternoon of painting ceramics. I thought I better make good on my promise before she goes away to college! She chose a butterfly trinket box and I chose a daisy trinket box. We had lots of fun choosing paint colours, chatting, and enjoying each others' company! And our masterpieces were ready just in time for Mother's Day! uhh....one of us selfishly kept ours.

After painting pottery, we had a bit of time before meeting up with Matt & Jason for pizza. What shall we do, hmm....
Of course McRae wants to go see her friends Bacon & Poppy!! She loves B&P just as much as they love her.

Daddy makes a cameo at 35 weeks:

Our super duper friends helping us make our baby announcements & thank-you cards. Special shout-out goes to Tamye for helping with design & hosting duties!!

We attended a live auction fundraiser for a new playground at an elementary school. Six student paintings were chosen to be auctioned off. Rhonda did a great job of organizing the auction. Bidding is ALWAYS fun no matter what you're bidding on!

May 10, 2009: Happy Almost Mother's Day to me!

May 12, 2009: Happy 30th Birthday Matt!
I'm a bad wife. That's a cupcake left over from a baby shower that co-workers had for me! >_<

Contemplating the next 30 years?

37 weeks!! How many more to go? Only baby knows!

This is for real!!!

This week our car seat arrived!! For some reason, THIS item has made it all real that we will soon be bringing our baby home!! Really?! That ballooning belly wasn't the first clue?! The kung fu master that's beating you inside out wasn't a hint?! hmm.....can't explain it.

Although I really want to make it to my due date at least (less than 7-ish weeks now!), another part of me is SO impatient and want to meet our little Swedish Berry NOW!!

This Threadless shirt is one of my faves, except for the colour. It's called: "You've got some 'splainin' to do!!" and I love saying it when I wear it! Yes, it is a tad small, but I couldn't help wearing it while pregnant!
